There are no better words that easily put a smile on my face when I think of how much the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus did to the Devil than the words “Permanent Head Damage” coined by the popular Gospel preacher, Joseph Prince.
By willingly obeying the Devil soon after his creation, man foolishly spat his Maker in the face and bowed himself as a slave to the devil, another created being.
(Rom 6:16) Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
By this Romans 6:16 principle, Satan began to reign over man and used this his new found authority to control the affairs of the entire universe. Having authority over the heart of man, it was easy for him to inspire all kinds of wickedness i.e sin from deep within him and by it slew him and his generation as he wishes.
However, while he was busy gallivanting and establishing himself as the new ruler of the earth, God in His love for man was busy working out a way through which the seed of the woman whom He had planned from the foundation of the world would come.
Upon His arrival, Jesus did not become a military general to go to war with the devil neither did He engage Him in a physical WWE kind of fight. No He didn’t. he took upon Himself the punishment that man’s original sin deserved which was death, a complete separation from God.
(Eze 18:4) Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
(Rom 6:23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
By allowing His Son Jesus to die the sinner’s death and be buried, God proved He was a just God. And in His justice, He could now declare justified from every form of accusation or charges levelled against him by the enemy and also restore him to his place of authority.
This was something the devil and his cohorts never saw coming. They thought by killing Jesus, man’s only hope would have been eternally destroyed.
(1Co 2:7) But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
(1Co 2:8) Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
By His death, burial and resurrection, Jesus stripped the devil of his legal right to reign over man and his affairs, giving him a permanent head damage.
(Mat 28:18) And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Via the Holy Spirit, all who believe in Jesus as their Saviour from sin, has received that same power and authority to reign in life over the devil, his demons and natural circumstances.
(Act 1:8) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
So as a christian, you need not worry yourself over the activities of the enemy. You need not fear him or his demons at all. He knows you are his lord, you should know it too.
Unlike what is popularly believed out there, he is not a lion that is capable of hurting just anyone he wills. The Bible said he moves about like one but he is not one.
(1Pe 5:8) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
(1Pe 5:9) Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
He’s just some Monkey walking about in the skin of a Lion. A toothless bulldog. He can bark at you as much as he wants but he is powerless over you.
If he dares show up on your door, you by faith resist him and put him in his proper place which is outside of your home.
I hope this blesses your heart. The seed of the woman (Jesus) has truly broken the head (authority) of the devil over you. And yes, what He did to him is a permanent head damage (PHD).
Glory to God!
